Masculine Edged Millcroft Main Bath

This modern masculine redesign of  a Millcroft Main Bath for 2 teenage boys has given the family more than a great looking bathroom.  It has changed how they interact everyday for the better.

The original washroom had a single sink with both an awkward layout and inadequate storage. The limiting factor was that we couldn’t expand the size of the room and the ideal request was to give both young men separate zones.  There are also 2 entry doors which needed to stay.

“There were 2 entry doors, there was one sink, a cabinet with no drawers, an extended counter under the window and the toilet was on the far left of the room and a 5′ bath/shower combination was dark when in use.”

I really felt the frustration of this family when I walked into this room. Two guys trying to get ready and find their persoanl items was like an unwelcome treasure hunt twice a day. No matter how organised they wanted to be it was virtually impossible with the poor storage which unfortunately is so typical in many homes. However, I also saw they were open to exploring options and had a realistic budget and timeline to achieve whatever was needed to make this space workable.

My first thought was to see if we could relocate the toilet from the far left and place it under the window. I could see immediately that this would give us the room needed to create a second sink/cabinet zone which I felt would be the perfect solution. Luckily the contractor gave us the green light on this initial idea so we were able to go ahead and develop the concept that eventually became the Masculine Edged Millcroft Main Bath you see in these photos.

The overall design vibe is clean, cool and masculine. Now, both guys have there own medicine cabinet, large cabinet drawers and cool chiseled edge granite counters. The lighting is LED and reflects the wave shape of the bold taps. The tub was upgraded and the end wall opened up to allow in more light. The glass enclosure means less mess no matter which shower function is selected yet the door can be left open if someone opts to have a soak. Sconces are sourced locally and called Glove with mfg unknown. Medicine cabinets, sinks and toilet are Kohler. Taps are Riobel. Granite is called Cambrian Black Leather. Floor tiles are 12 x 24 porcelain and called Nembi Grigio and mfg is unknown. Shower tiles are also sourced locally and mfg is unknown. Tub is from Home Depot. Custom shower surround and custom cabinetry designed by Joanne Jakab Interior Design sourced from local trade suppliers. Cabinets are white oak custom stained with Benjamin Moore colour match to Distant Grey. Walls are a light grey – Aura Matte Grandma’s China by Benjamin Moore.
